Workshop: Faculty members Carl Pollard and Bob Levine, along with visiting scholar Yusuke Kubota, hosted “Dynamic Semantics: Modern Type Theoretic and Category Theoretic Approaches” at the end of October.
Breakfast of Science Champions: At the beginning of November, the department hosted sixth-grade students from Columbus’s Ecole Kenwood Elementary School for a morning of language science.
NSF-funded REU Site at COSI: This summer, undergraduate interns worked at the language lab at COSI, doing research and learning about outreach.
Summer Linguistic Institute for Youth Scholars (SLIYS): In July, we had our most successful year of SLIYS yet. This program, which brings in high-school students from all over the country to study linguistics, is held yearly in the summer. This summer was the seventh year.
End of year party: in April, the department got together for an end-of-semester party to celebrate this year’s grads, the departmental teaching awards and to say goodbye to Oxley!
